The Challenge

I've been challenged that I couldn't possibly make the following scene as funny as it was when it originally happened. Although I do agree that things are ALWAYS funnier when you see or hear them personally, I will do my best....

There are two things you must understand first. Sometimes Kristin says things before she thinks them through, and when searching for the right word, she'll sometimes verbalize the wrong one first. Also, Kristin is from Indiana. Last year, Indiana had a big debate about whether they wanted to participate in daylight savings time. They had never been part of it in the past, but were thinking of adopting it. Kristin and I talked about this debate on mulitple occasions.

We were on the way back from a roommate dinner, and Kristin had been telling a story about how she and her brother used to play at a friend's house everyday during the summer, but they were always afraid of their friend's dad, Ronnie. The mom, Paula, would warn them throughout the day that they better have things cleaned up..."before Ronnie came home." Ronnie really was a nice guy, but as Kristin explained in an ominous tone, "we never knew what would happen if Ronnie came home and things weren't done, but we were terrified of it. We thought he would beat the...daylight...[and then Kristin paused just briefly, searching for the right word]... savings...time.. out of us." She sort of mumbled it, knowing she'd gotten the wrong words (I think she was searching for "living daylights), and wondering if anyone had actually heard her.
"Did you say "daylight savings time?" I started laughing. And she laughed, too, and said, "and we didn't even have daylight savings time!"

It still makes me laugh.

Wiebke

Turns out, when a diabetic gets low, it's like talking to a drunk person. Tonight Kristin asked what we were going to see this weekend. I know she knows the answer (manatees) so I don't say anything as she says, "Wiebke?" "Mermaid?" "Marmot?" By this time I am laughing hysterically, and all I can ask is "what's a Wiebke?"

Wiebke is Kristin's doctor. But it's a very fun name.... "Wiebke's wobble but they don't fall down."
